September 2025 Game Camera Study

This month marks the beginning of the annual Snapshot USA study, which Carolina Wildlands has proudly participated in since 2021. September also marks the close of the third quarter of the year as summer fades and early signs of fall begin to appear.

We had some especially exciting sightings this month — including the Red Fox! We had not captured a Red Fox on any of our game cameras since December 24, 2024, and this September brought two separate sightings. Another rare visitor was the Striped Skunk, which also appeared on one of our cameras this month.

Our usual residents — White-tailed Deer, Coyotes, Bobcats, and plenty of Northern Raccoons — made regular appearances as well. The fawns are nearly grown, with just a few spots remaining on their coats as they become more independent from their mothers. We also recorded several sightings of Beavers and River Otters, seen traveling to and from ponds around the property — a wonderful reminder of the thriving aquatic life within the reserve. As fall settles in, we look forward to seeing how the changing season shapes wildlife behavior and what new surprises the cameras will capture next.
