Internships 2026

Spring 2026 Internship Intensive Hypothesis & Presentations

June 19, 2026 marked the completion of the Carolina Wildlands Foundation’s 4-week Paid Summer Field Research Internship at Southern 8ths Preserve. The internship provided students 3 weeks of instruction in field research skills – learning study design, species identification, data collection, and scientific communication. Each intern then had just four days to develop an original research question based on observations made at the Preserve, collect and analyze data, and prepare a formal scientific presentation defending their findings at a June 19th symposium.

After four weeks of hiking forests, exploring wetlands, surveying prairies, and working long days in the South Carolina summer heat, nine aspiring environmental scientists have shared what they learned.
