Game Camera Study

July marked the beginning of the third quarter of the year and brought another busy month of wildlife activity across the property. White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus) continued to be the most frequently detected species, with bucks, does, and fawns regularly appearing on the cameras. The game cameras recorded 126 fawn detections throughout July, representing repeated sightings across multiple cameras and weeks. Some fun moments included a group of ten bucks together, a fawn playing with the same branch seen in previous footage, and a fawn nursing during the final week of the month.

Raccoons (Procyon lotor), Virginia Opossums (Didelphis virginiana), Eastern Cottontails (Sylvilagus floridanus), and Eastern Gray Squirrels (Sciurus carolinensis) continued to make regular appearances. American Beavers (Castor canadensis) were especially active at one camera during the middle of the month, while Coyotes (Canis latrans) and Bobcats (Lynx rufus) made occasional appearances. The cameras also captured a group of young raccoons during the first week of July.

Several bird species made notable appearances as well, including a Baltimore Oriole (Icterus galbula), Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias), Eastern Meadowlark (Sturnella magna), and Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis). Wild Turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo) were also captured throughout the month, including a hen with a poult and several juvenile turkeys.
