May 2025 – Game Camera Study
The past four weeks have been full of exciting wildlife sightings across the Carolina Wildlands Foundation’s game cameras! Week 21 brought in a season-high of 3,666 photos, including one especially heartwarming moment: the first White-tailed Deer fawn of the year, captured following its mother—a sure sign that summer is here. This fawn sighting comes two weeks earlier than in the 2024 season.
We have spotted several more fawns already, including a pair of twins staying close behind their mother. Paintjob, our resident piebald doe, also made an appearance, with her own fawn nearby. Northern Raccoons and Eastern Gray Squirrels were especially active, while Northern Cardinals added bright pops of color to the data.
Usual guests like coyotes, bobcats, and turkeys made their rounds, but we are especially thrilled by multiple sightings of Great Blue Herons and Northern Bobwhites. Not only have they been appearing on camera, but their distinctive “bob-WHITE!” calls have been echoing across the property, bringing a nostalgic summer soundtrack to our days.
