August 2025 Game Camera Update

August was a very busy month at Carolina Wildlands Foundation, with our game cameras capturing an impressive array of wildlife activity. Throughout the month we recorded visits from Coyotes, White-tailed Deer, Raccoons, Opossums, Beavers, Bobcats, and even River Otters.

The River Otters were an especially exciting highlight. After not appearing on our cameras since June, a pair was documented traveling to and from one of the ponds twice in August, suggesting they may be using the site more regularly again. We also had a notable Striped Skunk sighting—our first since February!

Our White-tailed Deer activity reached a peak this month. Cameras recorded over 300 sightings of does, nearly 100 sightings of bucks, and more than 150 sightings of fawns, showing strong reproduction and heavy use of the property’s habitat. Both Coyotes and Bobcats showed consistent activity, appearing on camera at least once each week in August. One especially striking image captured a Bobcat carrying its prey, a rare glimpse into its hunting success.

We also documented several unusual visitors for the cameras, including multiple Great Blue Herons, a Mourning Dove, and even a Turtle, adding to the month’s diversity. With autumn just around the corner, we’re excited to see what new surprises our cameras will capture at Carolina Wildlands.
