April 2025 – Game Camera Study
April marked the beginning of the second quarter of the year, and it was an active month across our game cameras. White-tailed Deer were especially abundant, with over 180 sightings of does recorded. Our familiar individual, Paintjob, was seen 11 times throughout the month. Interestingly, one of her appearances occurred outside her usual range, suggesting she may have been exploring new potential territory, or just feeling adventurous! We are eagerly anticipating the first appearances of fawns, as they typically begin venturing out with their mothers this time of year.
Bobcats were observed 24 times in April, with a few sightings during daylight hours, an exciting opportunity to better understand their activity patterns. There was also one sighting of a Bobcat carrying prey in their mouth. Coyotes matched that number with 24 sightings as well. One memorable series of photos captured a young coyote pup pouncing on a raccoon. Based on the sequence, it appears the pup did not capture the raccoon and may have simply been practicing hunting skills—or just playing!
American Beavers made six appearances, five of which occurred on the same day at a single location. This individual was seen carrying branches to and from the pond, constructing or repairing a lodge. River Otters were recorded five times, often seen scurrying between nearby ponds.
The birds of CWF certainly made their presence known during April. Regular visitors included the Great Blue Heron, American Crows, and Canada Geese. A covey of Northern Bobwhites was also documented on one of the game cameras.
We look forward to the upcoming months and hope to see more of our wildlife friends on the game cameras!
